In my daily Bible reading this morning I came across the passage in Revelation 3 where Christ rebukes the church at Ephesus for abandoning their first love. This passage is a good reminder for all of us to remain focused on what makes us christians. We must keep the gospel at the front of our lives. In my case, I have to fight the temptation to try and move beyond the gospel. I never actually say that I am doing something so egregious, but my actions betray my heart. I can focus on some of the more complex issues in Scripture and lose sight of the gospel. These doctrines are extremely important, but we cannot allow them to become our primary focus. This passage in Revelation 3 serves as a reminder of that struggle and what Christ thinks of those who lose focus on the main thing.
